WHICH LOOP SUITS YOUR DAY?

Four ways
to discover Pellworm.

The routes come from the Tourismusservice Pellworm. Our guide shows you how to turn them into a relaxed holiday day.

01 / THE SOUTH & ISLAND HISTORYapprox. 16 km

Südersiet

Lighthouse · Schütting bathing spot · Tammwarft · Old Church (Alte Kirche)

Our pick for your first day on the island: a manageable loop through the south with time for a break on the dyke.

Routes and approximate distances according to the Tourismusservice Pellworm and the cycle map, March 2026 edition (PDF), checked on 17 September 2026. The distances apply to the official loops; the ride there and back from Haus Westerschütting is not individually included.

FINDING YOUR WAY

Take the map.
Keep the day open.

Haus Westerschütting is in the south-west of the island, which is why we introduce the southern loop, Südersiet, first. Choose where to join the loop on the official map and plan your way back to the apartment at the same time.

The PDF map shows all four routes and the island’s roads. Open it before you set off or save it for the ride. For a spontaneous break or a shorter day, it helps to have looked at the route beforehand.

WHEN CHOOSING YOUR ROUTE

Choose suitable paths.

Many sections run along roads. The map lists separate footpaths and cycle paths at the Junkersmitteldeich and the Liliencronweg.

Karkenstieg: According to the cycle map, unsuitable for bikes. On the Südersiet loop, use the return route described along the Junkersmitteldeich.

Bupheverkoog: Observe the restrictions for the protected area and switch to the inland side of the dyke as shown on the map.

Vogelkoje: The tourism website currently reports it as closed. Don’t plan it as a stop. As of 17 September 2026.

YOUR CYCLING DAY STARTS WITH A LITTLE PLANNING

Your own bike.
Or one from the island.

Bringing your bike.

The NPDG ferry company takes bicycles on board. According to its current information, you don’t need to register them in advance. Before you travel, check the timetables, the fare for bikes and any notes on special luggage directly with the ferry company.

Hiring a bike on the island.

Inselfahrräder at Uthlandestraße 4 has touring bikes, e-bikes, children’s bikes and trailers, among others. Ask in good time about the right bike and accessories.

Especially outside the summer, it’s worth agreeing pick-up and return times in advance. You’ll find current prices and reservations with the hire shop.

Leave room for breaks.

Let the wind, the weather and how you feel decide which loop suits you. Take something to drink and check opening times if you’d like to stop for food along the way.

For a ride with children, what matters is a route everyone can enjoy. A shorter day with a long break can be just as lovely as the big island loop.
